Band of Horses - "Cease To Begin" Vinyl LP

Band of Horses - "Cease To Begin" Vinyl LP
SP745
Original Release - 2007

Band of Horses is an American indie rock band from the Pacific Northwest, they have been together since 2004. This album "Cease To Begin" is their second release, after the excellent "Everything All The Time" in 2006.

The obvious winner here is the first track "Is There a Ghost", which may be their best song to date. This whole album has a great feel to it, almost like they are performing in your living room, and that sensation is really apparent on vinyl. This vinyl release has much more depth than the CD, which is great here with such a polished low end.

"The General Specific" is the other great moment on side A, a down home rocker that reminds me a bit of The Rolling Stones, Fleet Foxes, and Limbeck: "In time I'd find a little way to your heart, down to the general store for nothing specific, gonna wash my bones in the Atlantic shore - only for you and me".

Ben Bridwell often reminds me of Neil Young, especially on this release. "Cease To Begin" really aims to simplify the message, with great results. Its great rock & roll music, with all of their influences packed in. "Cigarettes & Wedding Bands" is the best track on side B, with the always interesting "Window Blues" closing out this great album. This release is standard weight black vinyl, smooth and flat.
