Albums of the Year (So Far) - 2009

Albums of the Year (So Far) - 2009

As we come to the close of 2009, I would like to share with all the readers a few of the most interesting albums I hear in 2009. No, this will not be a countdown, as I am a little worn out from my "50 Greatest Albums of the Decade" list from earlier this year. I will simply list randomly the albums that were released in 2009 that I listened to the most.

Wilco - "Wilco (The Album)": This is a nice vinyl release if you can find it, plus it comes with the CD of the whole album. J. Tweedy and Co. are back with more experimental rock along the lines of "Sky Blue Sky" mixed with "A Ghost Is Born".

Dirty Projectors - "Bitte Orca": If you like experimental albums then this is for you.

Phoenix - "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix": Killer album name. Minus five points for being in a car commercial.

Neko Case - "Middle Cyclone": Neko brings the goods, a beautiful album.

The Hold Steady - "A Positive Rage {Live}: A great live band.

Girls - "Album": Check out "Hellhole Ratrace".

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart - Self Titled: Carrying the torch of My Bloody Valentine.

U2 - "No Line On The Horizon": Its a grower, but layer by layer you will experience a complex and beautiful album from Bono and the boys.

The Flaming Lips - "Embryonic": Stunning, and very experimental (what would you expect?), best track by far is "Evil".

Bruce Springsteen - "Working On A Dream": The work is never done.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes - "Up From Below": A great folk album, check out "Home".

Bob Dylan - "Together Through Life": Amazing as always.

Lets hope 2010 gives us something to talk about.
